Alton Rugby Football Club

New Senior Men's Playing Committee

A new vision for our Senior Men's Rugby...

Our Senior Men’s Rugby has been in a state of flux for some period of time and, following the departure of Darren “Nico” Nicholson as Director of Rugby, we have been working hard revisiting the structure of this part of the club.

We have involved the Hampshire Rugby Development Officer, Kieran Spencer, and his team who have run sessions with a number of senior players and coaches to clarify the current situation and help position us going forward. The really exciting part is that, since this initial engagement, the work that has gone on has been truly player led. We have witnessed something of a player awakening which has led to a number of really positive things.

We have a new vision for our Senior Men’s Rugby which spells out the club that we aspire to be. This is:

Alton RFC is a welcoming and engaging club where our members know they are valued - we want people to aspire to play for, and be part of the club.  We provide positive, purposeful coaching; competitive, enjoyable rugby and a good social environment.

To support this vision, the players, Executive Committee and Coaching Coordinator have agreed on a new Player Committee structure, which sees us bring back the Club Captain role. I am delighted to announce that Adam Baker has agreed to take on this role.

The new Player Committee structure is shown below. I am positive that this work by the players will strengthen Alton RFC Senior Men’s Rugby.

1. Club Captain - Adam Baker

2. Coaching Coordinator - Steve Jenkins

3. 1st XV Manager – Jamie Legg

4. 1st XV Captain - Johnny Happel

5. 1XV Vice Captain - Adam Hoxey

6. Super 2's Manager – James Youell

7. Super 2's Match day Coach - James Youell

8. Super 2's Captain - Appointed by Super 2's Manager and Match day Coach

9. Masters Manager - Tony Hopkin

10. Masters Captain - Tony Hopkin / Appointed by Masters Manager

11. Colts Coach – Alan Fleetwood

12. Senior Colts Representative – Appointed by the Colts Coach

One of the key messages that we have recognised during our discussions is that we need to improve our communication, engagement, welcome and integration of all new/existing players and members alike in all age groups.  If you have any constructive thoughts on this please let me know.

Best regards

Tom Mills
