Alton Rugby Football Club

Colts Tour 2014

Alternate Text Item

An early start on Friday 31st October for the Alton Colts squad sees them head to the Kent coast, across the briny to Dunkirk and onto Belgium.

This short cultural tour to Belgium includes two games of rugby with a return to Hampshire late on Sunday evening.

We wish them well!

There was a young man from Gent……

….and you can look the rest up on t’internet

The Colts did indeed get to Belgium and, perhaps more surprisingly, got back too.  It has been reported that the local populace are now recovering well but it will take a long time for the mental scars to heal, and also to rebuild Amadeus’ reputation.

The plan was to have 2 games but unfortunately Alton’s reputation preceded them and Royal Kituro couldn’t face the challenge – whether that was for the rugby or the subsequent boat races was never established.

The second game was against Brussels Celtic and Alton proved the worth of proper preparation by leaving late, getting lost, arriving extremely late and ‘warming up’ for nearly 5 minutes before establishing a 45-0 lead. All future meet times will therefore be 13:55….The squad’s keenness to play resulted in a prolific use of rolling subs. which would have shamed the vets.

Playing early in the second half with 16 on the pitch seemed a little unkind to the hosts, so Alton reverted to the more conventional 14 for the remainder of the game, finally securing a 60-31 victory.

Congratulations to all those who played out of position - you will be invited to have another go in the future…………not.

All in all, a very successful and enjoyable tour, with the added bonus of the same number returning as went out.
