4 wins from 4 secures Alton U15s a first title

A squad of 22 went to the Maidenhead Tournament on 10th October, winning all 4 games to bring home the silverware.

Guildford, Maidenhead B, Maidenhead A and Wallingford each came up against an Alton squad playing with full confidence and great togetherness. Alton showed an unbeatable combination of attacking rugby and gritty defence, scoring thirteen tries and conceding just two. True to the spirit of rugby Alton also loaned three of their squad to Wallingford for the entire tournament as they had turned up short of players - they also played with grit and style, scoring two of Wallingford's three tries.

This was a real advert for Alton's policy of rugby development through the Junior section, with the emphasis on  performance rather than results and developing a collective spirit within the squad. At U11 and U12, this squad was entered in B tournaments, unable to compete with the top teams, now not only are they competing at the highest level within Hampshire they're putting the club on the map against sides from Surrey, Oxfordshire and last season's Berkshire U14 champions!

In the photo above, 20 of the squad are pictured with Jack Wallace and Christian Wade of London Wasps. Wasps' mascot, Sting, was also at the tournament along with the community support team. Our thanks go to Maidenhead RFC for organising a superb festival and to the players and coaches of our opponents who all contributed towards a sporting and hugely enjoyable tournament.
