Alresford

43 - 0

Alton

This was Alton's 1st XV first competitive game of the season but they were unable to build on their two previous friendly games, in which they had beaten teams from both Eastleigh (25-15) and Trojans (54-19).

Only four of the previous week's selected squad took the field against local rivals Alresford and it showed with missed and dropped passes.

It took the home side only eight minutes to put the first try on the board but not before Alton had lost fullback Ant Beard injured making a try saving tackle. Using their well drilled and committed set of backs Alresford added three more tries (all converted) before half-time.

Alton performed much better in the second half restricting the home side to three further tries (one of which was converted). Alton made a number of penetrating attacks through both the forwards and three-quarters; and in fact spent most of the last quarter in their opponents' half.

Referee: Jonathan Priestley (HRURS).

Next Saturday Alton visit Aldershot & Fleet for their first Snows Hampshire League 2 match of the season.  Aldershot & Fleet play in Aldershot Park, off Guildford Road, Aldershot; kick-off is 3 p.m.
