Alton see off Farnborough in an exciting final to win Hampshire Plate.

Alton U13s won the Hampshire Plate after beating neighbours Farnborough at Anstey Park.

A bumper crowd was treated to a slice of rugby heaven: a fiercely-contested, entertaining game on a bone-hard pitch, played in brilliant sunshine.

'Boro had the slope in their favour in the first half and although they dominated possession and territory they were unable to unlock the Alton defence.

It was a game of contrasting styles. While 'Boro used their forwards to punch their way down the middle, Alton looked to get the ball wide, where their pacier backs had a clear edge.

The only score of the half was a superb try from full-back Doug Wickes, who sprinted over from 50 metres after a sweeping counter-attack that started on the Alton 22.

He added a second mid-way through the second half, jinking through the 'Boro defence and scoring under the posts - he slotted both conversions to give Alton a decisive 14-0 lead.

A late try from flanker Rhys Jenkins, who dotted down after some neat inter-passing between backs and forwards, sealed the win and the silverware.

The Alton U13 squad: Kamil Tomaszewski, Ben Williams, Tom Strachan, Charlie Crumpton, Olli Harrison, Louie Hyde, Matt Butler, Rhys Jenkins, Ed Thomas (c), Bastie Foreman, Max Rhodes, Max Hegt, Jamie Packenham-Walsh, Josh Saunders, Doug Wickes, Nicholas Hughes, Will Pincott, Michael Crow, Josh Samways, Seb Clark, Lewis Lofting, Theo Hughes.
