Alton

39 - 15

Andover

With the scheduled game against Chichester cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch Alton wanted to give as much game time as possible to the 36 players who turned up, prior to next week's Hampshire Plate competition away against Portsmouth.

Alton also wanted to welcome two new players Josh Samways and Will Ackroyd from Salesian College who were representing the club for the first time.

Andover agreed to Alton fielding one squad for the first half and a completely different squad for the second half with rolling subs so all the players got some game time.

Alton started well with and good work from the forwards producing plenty of good quality ball which was used by the backs to produce four tries for the home side. Andover responded with a try leaving the score at half time 26 points to 5.

The second half produced a more even contest with the scores level at 10 all.

Alton could and should have performed better during this period, but some selfish play and sloppy tackling prevented them showing their true potential and the speed of the outside backs.

Tries were scored by Rory O'Connor (2), Max Rhodes, Ed Thomas and Douglas Wickes (3). Wickes also converted two of the tries.

In order to give more game time for the Alton Squad, Alton then played a short game amongst themselves, enabling everyone to get more rugby before next week's cup match.
