Rhys Jenkins Soars Above The Rest

Having to play both the league leaders and the second placed side on successive Saturdays is probably not a scenario that would have favoured Alton and so it proved.

Bognor have now won eleven out of thirteen games having only lost to Fareham Heathens on the opening day of the league and to US Portsmouth, the leaders.

Alton struggled again to raise a side and were grateful that Martin Jagger (Masters), Rhys Jenkins (Colt) and Josh Samways (Colt) all made themselves available. This was the 1st XV debut for both Jenkins and Samways, with Jenkins being so un-phased by the occasion that he rightfully earned the accolade of Alton’s Man of the Match!

Again despite the final score-line Alton showed again that they are hard to beat.  With three tries against them in the first thirteen minutes they knuckled down and kept Bognor from scoring again until ten minutes into the second half. Special mention for full-back, Ed Lowman, who tackled ferociously saving three or four likely tries and making a number of breaks. Other notable performers were, Chris Gregory for stepping in to prop and assistant-coach Adam Baker, who manfully stood in for Jack Renehan until he appeared.

In the last thirty minutes, the regularity of Bognor's scoring at five minute intervals, was a result of the tiredness and exhaustion amongst the visitors.

Alton do not have a game next Saturday, although there is rugby in Anstey Park when Alton’s Masters (Vets) entertain local rivals Petersfield, kick-off 14.30.
