Boroughmuir 10s Tournament - another cup final day.

Boroughmuir's awesome Meggetland facility hosted a superb new 10s festival (5 forwards, 5 backs), known as the Charlie McLennan Memorial Tournament and we competed with some really strong Scottish teams and our new friends Teddington from London:-
As the 10's tournament got underway there was also an U15 Barbarians 15-a-side fixture between England Barbarians (Alton and Teddington) and Scotland Barbarians (Boroughmuir, Howe of Fife, Melrose and Ayr.) This was an excellent way to ensure every lad who turned up got some game time.
Scotland Barbarians 10 – 64 England Barbarians
Scotland, coached by Boroughmuir’s U16 coach, were no match on the day for the England side coached by Alton’s Dave Bugler and Andy Lockie. Broadly speaking this was an Alton pack plus Teddington's backs, ably captained by Alton's James Forrest at outside half. The England side wore Alton shirts in the first half and Teddington shirts in the second. The score did not reflect the play which was highly competitive throughout. The England pack held the advantage at scrum time and performed well at line out. The Scots backs showed some excellent patterns in attack but it was in defence that England exposed a lack of structure, especially with turnover ball.

A great day's rugby played in brilliant sunshine, many friends made by all who took part. Our grateful thanks go to organiser Davy Ladd and tournament director Simon McLean and everyone at 'Muir who made us feel so welcome. We made many friends, not least with our rivals Teddington. Alton may have fallen at the last hurdle - the second defeat in a cup final this season - but they played with tremendous spirit and skill, not least at set piece. They were ably coached on the day by Tom Rands and Dave Gwyther.
