29 - 10

Alton

Fawley

This was a very similar game to the same fixture last year but it did not live up to the quality that could be expected for a top of the table clash between two unbeaten sides lying first and second.

Fawley, a much more experienced and streetwise side than their visitors, dominated the first quarter of the match, whilst Alton appeared to be still stuck in the traffic queues caused by an accident en-route on the M27! Alton did not shape up too well to the thrusting attacks from Fawley who scored three tries in the first quarter, with one conversion making the  lead 17-0.

Alton were awarded a penalty on twenty-three minutes which Joe Gwyther slotted neatly home.  Realising that they could be competitive, Alton contested more aggressively, at times forcing the hosts to defend desperately.  However just on half-time Fawley broke free and scored a converted try.  Half-time score 24 - 3.

Honours were almost shared in the second half with both sides scoring tries, Alton scored seven points when Tom Smethurst finished off a forward drive from a penalty giving Gwyther a fairly simple conversion, while Fawley scored an unconverted try.Fawley remain unbeaten earning four try bonus points in four games. Final score 29 - 10.
