This Sunday we had a match against Fordingbridge. The last time we met they beat us by only one point, so we were expecting a fairly even match. That was what we got, however this time we maintained the edge through-out.
There was some excellent work on the wing from Gareth Robinson that led to our first score in the first ten minutes. This was down to us getting the ball out from the rucks and to the wing as quickly as we could. There was also some great solid defence from Cameron Wicks and Will Hearne. Persistent tackling from Harry Boll must have saved a few tries. Jamie Rawlings then scored after 22 minutes which boosted our confidence and made us think we could win. Cameron successfully converted this.
A converted try by the vistors after 27 minutes made the half time score 12-7.
After 10 minutes of the second half, a Cameron conversion after a try by Nathaniel Ward (his first ever try for the club from an unaccustomed position of scrum half) extended the Alton lead. A further try from Will Foster, again converted by the Number 8 Cameron, saw the Alton lead extended before an opportunistic piece of quick thinking by the visitors after a mid-field penalty award resulted in a converted try to them to make the final score 26 - 14 to the home side
A spate of unavailabilities and injuries meant that Alton only had 18 players available but everyone managed to get a fair share of time on the park, including prop Tom Rudman who was acting as a yo-yo, coming off, then back on for blood replacement, then off, then on ... you get the picture!
