Nomads

The game began in Bordon where the warm weather mimicked tones of mid-June, however the heat that prevailed failed to cause a problem for the Alton players

Within six minutes of the start number 8 Tom Willis had scored the first of his tries following a line out. Three minutes later following another lineout, a good break by Willis to the opposition's 22m line enabled his fellow back rower, Rob Askew, to score. Chris Gregory then scampered over, followed by scrumhalf, Mark Crowther. Crowther scored the try to provide Alton with their try bonus point, all within the first twenty minutes. Five minutes later not to be out done, second row, Ryan Bale, completed another move and Joe Gwyther added his fifth successive conversion. By halftime Alton were 45 points up with further tries from George Trantham, Gwyther and Willis with his second. Gwyther missed all three!

From the second-half kick-off Alton received and passed the ball through the backs, producing a score straight away for Francis Williams which Gwyther converted. Alton confirmed their dominance throughout the second half with further tries from Cameron Wicks (an interception), Mike Robson (who had replaced David Shepherd), Wills (two more, totalling four), Trantham (two more earning his hat-trick) and Adam Hoxey. The final try belonged to Nick Stoffell who bulldozed his way over the line following an Alton scrum on the 22m line. Wicks had taken over the kicking duties converting four of the second half tries.

Alton had played some of their best rugby of the season defeating a spirited Southsea Nomads team 102 to nil.  Despite the score line the Nomads players never gave in and were committed throughout, but the superior Alton team work kept finding the gaps to score sixteen tries (converting eleven of them.)

Alton now aim to win their final three matches in the league to challenge for top spot and promotion.  Their local derby away to Alresford on 1st April will be their biggest challenge and no laughing matter.
