Petersfield

We were not on good form for this friendly match against local Petersfield, who are now in the same division as us.

Players arrived late, or not at all, and we only just managed to field 15 players. We took that attitude into the game, and that cost us dear. Petersfield had a dreadful start to the game, otherwise they could have been five or six scores up in a first half which saw us conceding 3 scores. Our best moment came from a penalty move when Andy Jones narrowly failed to go over for a try.

We turned over ball on a regular basis and were very passive at the ruck, which meant that Petersfield enjoyed 85% possession. We will not win games living off scraps. The highlight of an otherwise uninspired performance was a series of interpassing between forwards and backs which saw Will Robinson go over for try number 3 of the season - a challenge to the backs? Will was also everywhere on the pitch. A great tackling performance by Chris Martin in the centre kept the score count for the opposition to just 5 scores.

Learning points:

  1. We can not concede as many turnovers as we did and expect to win games.
  2. We need to re-align defensively from second phase - they had too many 4 on 2 situations.

Tries: Will Robinson

Man of the match: Chris Martin

Special mention: Pip on his first performance, for a strong performance out of position in the centre and on the wing. Thank you.
