Romsey

With their biggest win of the season so far, Romsey showed Alton and the spectators why they are unbeaten so far in Hampshire two

Romsey are clearly a well-organised, fit and competent side, having scored their bonus point try within twenty minutes of the kick-off. This was achieved by deftly moving the ball from side to side across the field with the support runners coming from depth, at speed and at the correct angle.

However, Alton did dominate at scrum time and were rewarded when their scrum-half, Mark Crowther, took a quick penalty and set up a driving maul. From this effective move, Bruce Oliphant was able to drive Rhys Jenkins over the try line to score. Simon Ford successfully converted. Unfortunately, Oliphant had to leave the field shortly afterwards when he broke through the home team's defence only to be tip-tackled.  He flew up into the air and crash landed on his right shoulder dislocating it.

By half-time Romsey had scored six converted tries leading 42-7 and by the end of the second half they had added another five points. The impressive Romsey number 8 only missed one attempted conversion all afternoon!

Alton certainly had plenty to learn from this encounter but their attitude was admirable in never giving up and their determination to make life as difficult as they could for the clearly superior opposition. Special mention for two debutants from the Colt squad; Alex George having an impact in the middle of the lineout winning some great ball and Dan Napier who came on as a substitute and did not disappoint.
