Under 15's Achieve Narrow Win
Sun 13 Sep 2009, 11:00

Alton
15 - 12
Vectis

Kick off was at eleven with warm and overcast conditions, the pitch was firm but moist which made it ideal for a long, hard game in which players were sure to tire before the end.
Play started with a evenly matched opening quarter with both sides scoring; Vectis first with a converted try where they managed to get the ball out from a well- planned ruck, passing it out to the wing and crossing the try line. They were then confined to the twenty-two for the remaining twenty minutes by Alton, forward rucking and the constant threat from the backs.
The pressure paid off however when Will Foster crossed the try line with a quick crash ball from the back of a maul.
In the second period the match stayed deadlocked with both sides defending well. But Vectis started to tire as Alton piled on the pressure and resulting in three opportunities, which were just held up by a tattered Vectis defence.
There were a few changes in the pack for the third section with players being taken off for some respite. It was obvious that Vectis were tiring greatly as their forwards were being fought back from every ruck and maul. This gave Alton a great opportunity to make up the two points they were behind so Alton made some great pick and drives to get it to the corner when quickly using the space on the other side of the field got it out to the backs, all of a sudden William Hearne ran though the last defender to score Alton’s last try to win the game.
Report by players Tom Rudman, Gareth Robinson and Will Foster.
