Alton

45 - 24

Westcombe Park

Alton continued with their wide game strategy against this touring side from Kent and secured a comfortable win in their last 15 aside match of the season.

The visitors kicked off and Alton moved the ball wide very quickly enabling Max Rhodes to out flank his opposite wing to score under the posts. The conversion by Ed Thomas was successful. Alton scored three more tries in the first half two by Rhodes and one by Cam Brine with Thomas converting two of them before he slightly twisted his ankle and was replaced by Louie Hyde.

Westcombe Park, who by all accounts are always slow starters however came back with a try in the corner leaving a half time score of 26-5.

In the second half Alton made ten changes in an effort to give all available players some match time and a more even contest followed producing 19 points for both teams.

In the second half, Westcombe Park were first to score before Alton responded with a good try by number 8 Matt Butler following some good passing interplay. Max Heght added the conversion bringing the score to 33-12. Westcombe park then had a purple patch and scored two tries converting one to bring the score to 33-24.

Alton however were not to be beaten, upped the effort and commitment leading to a great try by hooker Sam Steele, who had some large forwards bearing down on him as he jinked his way over the line.

Alton's last try came from fullback Theo Hughes who had to use all his pace to beat the covering winger to score under the posts. Thomas who returned to the field to steady the ship when the score was 33-24, added the two points giving a final score of 45-24.

A good end to a good season.
