Alton U16's Find a Second Wind

Alton U16's travelled to Windsor for a hastily arranged fixture.

With thanks to Andy Gay for a hastily arranged fixture, the U16’s arrived at an impressive ‘Home Park’ beneath the imposing crenelations of Windsor Castle on a cold and cloudy Sunday morning having played only one game since 6th December.

Windsor had put on 36 points to Alton’s nil by half time through running in straight lines parallel to the touch line with strength and determination. They had the best of scrum and line out with the smattering of parents who made the journey fearful of a complete whitewash.

A sympathetic reporter would say that Alton won the second half.

A rejuvenated fifteen took the field after the break and proceeded to boss the loose, take some opposition ball in the line out, and win at least one strike against the head.

Tries by Adam Bodnar, revelling in his debut in the back row, and Captain Ben Gillan (who is that red haired boy…) were the reward for pinning the opposition back in their half for long periods and matching them physically.

A brave display from a team, who could have easily dropped their heads at half time, showed the potential of the Under 16’s when they choose to impose themselves on their opponents.
