A Great Day Out at New Milton

A big thank you to all the team and parents who attended the tournament at New Milton today - everyone was there before 09:30 and we brought the sun with us. Some nice Boy Wonder points on the way J

There were two Pools A & B, with 5 teams in each pool. New Milton fielded two teams, but all the other teams were the appropriate Under 10 “A” team from the respective RFC’s, so some tough opposition for the lads.

This was the first tournament and our first outing against another team with the new rules. Our team started where we left off last season with a cracking win/start over Romsey, beating them 15-5. Our next game was tough against Bournemouth, who had a very strong side (one we need to watch this season at the tournaments), and we drew this game 0-0. Next game was Winchester, a good side who we beat 15-5, and another good score.

At this point we were on a roll, or at least I thought we were until the game against New Milton 2. We played 7.5 mins in the first half and 5mins in the second, the laws were totally ignored, and they even kicked the ball to help them score a try. Unfortunately we lost this game 0-15 to the New Milton second team who clearly had the ref as their ninth player – let’s pray this ref  doesn’t feature in any future tournaments !!!

So after our pool games, we were tied for joint second with New Milton 2 behind 1st place Bournemouth, and after the number of tries were analysed we were third in the pool behind New Milton 2. We were then in the 3rd Pool play off against Basingstoke and I’m pleased to say we beat Basingstoke 10-5.

Thank you again for all your support and well done to the team - the first tournament is always challenging but the lads embraced the new rules with ease.
