Alton Rugby Football Club

End of season awards

A great end of season party at the clubhouse following Junior Presentations at the Assembly Rooms.

Another superb job by our manager, Wendy Becker-Davies and Sarah Mackenzie, in organising the hog roast - two beasts chomped through in double quick time! Also sterling work by Theo in manning the barbeque. It was fantastic to see Wendy rewarded by the parents and coaches for her efforts in organising the squad, parents and tour. Wendy's persuasive talents in getting sponsorship are almost unprecedented. Well done Wendy, we love you!

Huge thanks to our sponsors - Johnny Rath (Fabrik), Persimmon Homes and Alton Round Table. The boys are kitted out really well and the tour was a huge success on and off the field. Your support is much appreciated by all.

Thanks to all parents and boys who turned out and made the day very special.

The player awards went as follows:-

1. Players' Player - Niall Fife

Runners up - Lewis Jones-Ayres (15 tries and MotM 6 times) and Victor Mills (try of the season and MotM twice)

Player comments for Niall, who scored 9 tries and one conversion this season and MotM 3 times, included - "He's a beast!" "A great leader and captain this year"  "Always encouraging others, a good team player" "Always puts in 100%, always cheerful and polite"

2. Endeavour - Cameron Thorn

Shortlisted - Kieran Becker-Davies, Alex Goudie, Charlie Conduct

In his first season of rugby Cameron has turned from a quiet mouse into a real force on the rugby pitch. His confidence has grown immeasurably, both as a player and as a person. Cameron is much loved by the squad and was the first player to kiss a girl on tour.

3. Most Improved - Luke Kedge

Shortlisted - Harry Cann, Victor Mills, Harry Thomas, James Tillotson, Karter Whittock

The most difficult award as the entire squad without exception have come on strongly this season. Luke had adapted well to playing scrum half and is starting to boss his forwards and provide quick ball for the backs. Luke's also one of the most coachable players - always listens and learns, has much potential for even further improvement.

4. Coaches' Award - Dan Androuliakos

Shortlisted - Niall Fife, Lewis Jones-Ayres, Bradley Andrews, Ollie Burden, Harry Cann, Jack Paine

Dan has been pivotal to the team's success on and off the field, a dedicated trainer and a strong and determined runner. Scoring 32 tries in just 23 games is a quite astonishing feat but the coaches recognise it's not just the act of scoring that has brought this award. Dan doesn't just catch the ball and flop over the line, most of his tries come from breaking tackles, finding space, evading defenders and using his pace. Dan works just as hard off the ball as he does with it, is the main leader of our defensive push and shows a great deal of leadership potential as back up to Niall. A stand out performer!

The coaches would like to thak all the players in this amazing squad for their dedication and hard work this season - also, and this is important, for making it so much fun! Despite the weather trying to break up our season we've played more matches than most and have worked hard at training on Thursdays, this was key to the boys' development. It has been a real pleasure and privilege to work with such a great group of lads, our reward has been to see them grow as people and players, but the beer was also very much appreciated!

Thanks for the good times!

Dai-Mun Geezer, Theo (Coach, Alton KFC), Greg, Adam and Nick
