End of season awards
Thanks to everyone for an excellent turn out at Presentations Day and especially to Ady Blizzard for running the barbie outside the clubhouse. A fun and relaxing way to end a terrific season.
Our awards went as follows:-
The Army & Navy Players' Player Award - Doug Lowe, for 3 man-of-the-match performances at flanker in the League fixtures against Jersey, Trojans and Portsmouth. Doug may have lost his tackle-monster title to Joe Randall but his work in tackling and especially mauling has earned him the nickname of The Clamp amongst the coaches and he has maintained a high standard throughout the season as the destroyer of opposition moves.
The AJR Cup for Most Improved Player - Alex Adams. There was a long list of candidates for this award which was very pleasing in itself. Alex headed the list for listening, learning and putting a huge amount of effort and physicality onto the field particularly towards the end of the season and on tour in Wales. As a new joiner this season Alex has integrated well into the squad and earned the respect of his fellow players by taking a massive step forward in his game.
The Army & Navy Award for Endeavour - Cameron Lockie. Cameron's attendance this season has again been excellent and a recent lift in personal confidence has seen a significant improvement in his tackling - earning the man-of-the-match award in our final game against Reading. Saddled with the nickname of Splinter for spending so much time on the bench in League games, Cam's enthusiasm has remained undiminished and he will be one to watch out for at the start of next season.
The Coaches Award, Andy Gay Cup - Ollie Brench. Another long list of worthy contenders for this award and the coaches decided it should go to our scrum half who has bossed his forwards so brilliantly all season and supplied high quality ball to the backs. Ollie is a competitive and intelligent rugby player who not only sees the problems but identifies the solutions and opportunities, urging his team mates on to improve their own game. His work rate off the ball is a lesson to everyone. One of very few who played in all 22 matches this season.
Well done also to everyone in the squad for playing your part in a terrific season in which you've improved immensely and proved you're more than worthy to sit at the top table of Hampshire clubs. Everyone should take pride in the fact that 3 of you were selected for the Hampshire training squad, let's keep up the standard and push for an even better season as U15s.
