Alton Rugby Football Club

The week ahead w/c 15 March

We need to pick ourselves up after Sunday's drubbing at Haslemere and front up to Portsmouth.

A couple of defeats to better opposition doesn't turn a good team into a bad one. Let's refocus our efforts and put in a strong finish to the season. Well done to Joe Gwyther who played a full game at 10 for Hampshire and to Ralph Andrews who made his first county start for Hampshire A in their win over Middelsex A. Commiserations to Ed Simmons who passed up on a skiing trip in Chamonix when he was named in the squad to make a Hampshire start only to be told late on Friday by the Hampshire coaches that he wouldn't be playing. How gutting is that? Someone at Club Hampshire needs to take a good look at themselves!

Sunday's fixture against Portsmouth is a friendly so everyone in the squad who shows up will get some game time. Mindful of how strong they were in our league fixture and how much better we need to be in our tackling - especially in midfield, we'll be working on defence on Thursday. Let's hope we can put a proper effort in and play with some restored pride before we go on tour to Wales.
