Alton Rugby Football Club

Spotlight on the U15s

arfc2000 sept 2014

Alton RFC U15 squad or “arfc2000” (due to dates of birth from Sept ‘99 to Aug 2000) have made a good start to the season. The club touch rugby sessions plus the fitness drills run by (sado-masochist) Theo helped ensure players were up to speed. So far, results of 5 wins and 2 (narrow) losses show the squad is definitely going in the right direction. Also, Hampshire league results of 2 wins out of 2 leave the squad in a position to be promoted to the group above. However, strong Petersfield and Farnborough squads are up next and the squad know that they will need to play their best rugby to advance.

U15 Head Coach Dai (mond geezer) and (Alton KFC) supremo Theo, ably assisted by Greg and Adam, welcomed Josh Smith on to the coaching team this season. Josh played age-grade rugby at Alton a few years ago; in fact, he was coached up to age 16 by Dai (& still came back for more!) Josh continues to play (for London Scottish Academy and Hampshire) but in his spare time, he’s also doing his RFU Level 1 Coaching Certificate. Welcome to the squad Josh! We’re also delighted to welcome new players Conrad, Oli and Jake.

However, since five players were lost (due to other commitments) at the end of last season, numbers are down and the squad are looking to recruit players. We wish Ed, Freddie, Will, Seb, Bradley and Daniel all the best and thank them for their efforts over the years. The U15s are keen to welcome new players of all sizes and abilities throughout the season. If you wish to join the squad, come along to a Tuesday training night (6.30-8pm) or to coaching on a Sunday when we don’t have a game. Please check our fixture list on the website for more information. Come on down to Anstey Park and “love the mud”!

The squad are currently planning their 3rd Easter Tour (to France, this season- following tours to Wales & Ireland). Please support our joint fundraising effort with the U16s and come along to the Christmas Party at the club on Friday 19th December, 7.30pm-1pm. Tickets are only £10 for adults (and £5 for 14-16s) and include a curry and live music. See the U15 squad’s twitter and Facebook accounts for more information. If you’d like to buy tickets, please contact Wendy via twitter, Fb or email or Claire (U16 Team Manager) via their squad’s Facebook page or via the arfc website. Tickets will also be available behind the clubhouse bar- please ask bar staff.

Many thanks,

Wendy
