Alton Rugby Football Club

Week ahead w/c 07 February

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

That was a tough week, in fact January was a tough month. The rescheduling of fixtures following the freeze presented us with three league fixtures over four weekends and our mission was to win two at least of them. We won all three and in doing so we've achieved our number one objective for the season - to maintain our position in league division one for next season. We will now finish at least 4th, equalling our achievement last season. With two league fixtures left we must now reset our sights - we have a month to regroup and see what we can do in tough games against league leaders Gosport and last year's champions Portsmouth.

Sunday's win against local rivals Petersfield left us with a range of emotions. Happy with the win, relief at the final whistle, and some frustration that we didn't win by more. What was clear was the lads were exhausted after the game - it was a tough week of school rugby leading up to this match, our third league fixture in a month and yet the lads put everything into the game. They come out of it with great credit.

Major positives from Sunday were - a win and 3 points! Another clean sheet, some excellent and determined scramble defence. Another dominant display in the scrum. Players stepping up to the 1st team and performing well. Yes, there's plenty to work on and we will improve further.

For the squad we have a friendly at Fordingbridge plus a Development match against Totts. Both will be excellent opposition and meaningful matches, part of the building process leading up to our home match v Gosport.

For the coaches and parents we have another club quiz to win and some final touches to the tour fundraiser. Onwards and upwards!
