Alton Rugby Football Club

Not a lot of people know that ...

The U15 squad is playing some great stuff, attendance at training is excellent (20+ every Thursday) - but the parents are doing us proud too! Did you know that ...?

  • Dave Forrest is progressing really well as a Hampshire Society ref, keeping adult teams in order on Saturdays in addition to reffing at the club on Sunday mornings.
  • Squad "tog" Gary Brench is helping Hampshire RFU keep the U15 results updated on the website. Until this week there were no scores to be seen back as far as September, Gary's on the job for 5 minutes and all 3 league division scores and tables are bang up to date! See the latest here.
  • Coaches Dave Bugler and Andy Lockie are helping out with the Senior 2nd XV on Saturdays. One day, maybe  the Seniors will be as skilled as the U15s ... ;)
  • Not only is Dave Gwyther a coach and the most polite of sideline enforcers, he's also Junior Chairman and Sponsorship Secretary. Dave secured this squad some great sponsorship, he's also a stalwart of the club's Executive Committee and makes the difference between the club operating at a profit rather than a loss with the sponsorship he brings in.
  • The quiz team made up of parents from this age group have won the club quiz for the last four years ... or is it five? We need to give the other teams a chance at the next quiz night, Friday 25th February, (see Club News) so we're breaking up the champion team into two - please let Ady know if you're interested in being part of our continued quiz night success story!
  • When you register your boy at the club you also sign up to help out once a season with a bar or kitchen duty. Team Manager Ady organises our rota and you will have seen requests for volunteers on the weekly email updates. It's only for an hour or so and it's a great opportunity to socialise at the club and keep warm whilst the other parents are freezing outside!

Our thanks go to all our regular parent volunteers, in whatever role, or roles ... whether it's just an hour once a season or many hours every week this volunteer effort is highly valued and rewarding, not least with an invite to the club's Volunteer Barbeque which coincides with the first home game for the Senior XV. If you can spare some time and would like to help out at the club, come and have a chat with Ady or Dave.
