Alton Rugby Football Club

Alton RFC is extremely grateful to all our sponsors for their continued support and affiliation with the Club. Without them we would not be able to offer our members the facilities and opportunities that we do today. We would also like to thank previous sponsors of playing kit, waterproofs and tour shirts. You have not been forgotten - the boys are very proud of these and continue to wear them around town and for training.

This season we are organising the final leg of our 6 Nations tour with a trip to Italy. This promises to be the best tour yet but may also prove to be the most expensive. In order to keep costs to a minimum and ensure that everyone in the squad has the chance to tour we are ramping up our fundraising activities.

Gary has worked tirelessly with Sean Bishop, the rugby manager at Tours4Sport, to sort out flights, accommodation, coach transfers, city guide tours and opposition. The itinerary is just about complete and it should be a fantastic event.

Dave Gwyther has sent letters to local schools seeking permission for the lads to miss the final day of term, which as we know is vital for success in year 11.

RWC Breakfasts

Thanks go to the following for their time and effort in the first of our fundraising events - the RWC brekkies which raised over £650. Tom Rands, Gary Brench, Dave Gwyther, Andy Lockie, Neil Smith, Peter Benn, David Bugler and Martin Andrews all gave up time on Saturday and Sunday mornings to prepare and serve full English breakfasts to an adoring and grateful set of customers. Our thanks also to those customers for absorbing the cholesterol in supporting our tour and the club.

Sainsbury's Bag Packing

As reported here this event, held on Saturday 14th January, was a massive success. Our thanks to Sainsury's, Martin Andrews and Gary Brench for arranging it all. This was a key opportunity for the boys themselves to put some effort into fundraising with the support of parents and raise the profile of the club within the community. We raised the amazing total of £1047.68

RFU Grand Draw Tickets

Many thanks to everyone for doing their bit on the ticket sales. Together we managed to sell over 900 which delivers just over £450 to the tour fund - a really good result.  A special mention to the 6 families who sold their full allocation, and some a few more - Andrews, Bugler, Coleman, Gwyther, Hibbert and Sommers. But whether you sold 2 books or 20, it was a squad effort and all the tour squad benefits! Good job!

This also allows the U16 squad to present the club with a cheque for £366 towards first aid training and kit refills which will be much appreciated.

Band night at the club - FARTfest (Fundraising for Alton Rugby Tour festival)

Ffartfest on 23rd March was a fantastic success and raised just over £330. However the main reason for the evening was to have a good time, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did ! The quality of all the acts was superb. Please pass on our thanks to your friends who came along and performed. There is truly some great young musical talent in the Alton area.
Special thanks also to Howard Farr for the microphones and vocal PA, Dave Forrest for the other amplifiers, Sam Welch for lighting, Charlie Rands for compere, Dave Gwyther for tickets, the barstaff, Dom Brench (main roadie) who set up, Ben Coleman for capturing the evening on video and Carolyn/ Tom Rands for late night logistics...and anyone else that helped on the night or by selling tickets
Thanks again
Gary
