Essential U16 Squad Information for Players and Parents

Alton RFC U16 Squad Information for New Players

Players: All squad members have Dates of Birth between 01/09/1999 and 31/08/2000.

Coaches: Dai Bugler (Head Coach, Level 2 RFU); Number 2: Theo Androuliakos (Level 1 RFU) and Adam Burden (parent helper) continue in the same roles as last season. This season, after a decade of coaching at Alton RFC, we bid a sad farewell to coach Greg Dalton and son, Ned. Thank you both for your lengthy and enthusiastic commitment to the squad. We look forward to seeing you both down at Anstey Park soon. Josh Smith, who joined the coaching team last season, is off to University. We wish you well with your studies Josh!

Training: Tuesdays 6.30- 8pm and Sundays 10am- 12pm (when there is no match- see website)

At: Alton RFC, Anstey Park, GU34 2NB

Bring mouth guard; boots with rugby studs (preferably); water bottle; training kit: shorts, shirt, waterproof top/ bottoms. Please note: any kit worn for contact must have no zips to avoid injuries and Alton RFC training kit is not essential. If your son uses an inhaler, please make sure he has one in his kit bag, even if he uses it very infrequently. Please tell coaches prior to the session if you’re carrying an injury or have been recently unwell.

Registration & Fees: New players can train with the squad for a few weeks (3 - 4 weeks or so) before they need to register with Alton RFC and the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and pay membership fees. Membership forms can be downloaded here: http://www.alton-rfc.com/membership.html Annual Fees are £115 - U18 player (£70) plus required adult membership (£45). Registration is mandatory after a few weeks because players who are not registered are also not insured in the event of a serious injury.

Matches: the squad arrive at 10am (to train) with matches kicking off at 11am. Arrive in training kit (need waterproof, warm top & maybe track suit bottoms for when not on field). Match shirts are provided and this year we also have sponsored Alton rugby shorts and rugby socks. Many thanks to our marvellous sponsors Paul Hunt of Chronos Solutions and Johnny Rath of Fabrik. Skins/thermals with or without pads can be worn if desired.

Bring “number ones” to wear after the match: black trousers, shirt & tie, smart (school) shoes. Remember a towel & shower gel (& a bin bag for muddy kit!) but go easy on the Lynx! All players are expected to join the opposition squad for some post-match food in the host’s clubhouse. You can buy an Alton club tie from the club shop on Sundays in the clubhouse. A school or other tie can be worn until you get a club tie. Other Alton kit (waterproofs, tracksuits, training gear etc.) is available online from O’neills: www.oneills.com/shop-by-team/rugby/rugby-union/alton-rfc

Teamer: The squad uses the Teamer app to manage squad availability for games. You’ll receive an invitation by email. Please follow the instructions in the email to register & please also download the Teamer App. Texts are free if you have the app and it's available for android, windows & iPhone.

Definitely worth checking out just to read Dai's match reports, check fixtures & read the club newsletter.

Any Q's on the playing side, please ask Dai or Theo at training or squad captain, Niall Fife. Any other Q's, please ask me!
