Alton Concede As Front-Row Curse Strikes Again

Alton's ongoing front-row crisis forced their 1st XV to withdraw from their London 3 fixture at Old Blues at the weekend.
With half-a-dozen props on the injury list, Alton simply could not muster enough experienced or capable front-row players to compete safely in the scrummage.
Prop is a highly specialised position and also one of the most perilous on the rugby field. Throwing a rookie prop into an intense London 3 game could have had serious safety consequences and Alton were simply not prepared to take the risk.
Although Old Blues were awarded the walkover win, there is one small consolation for Alton.
The RFU has been sympathetic to Alton's plight and it has no plans at this stage to dock the club points for this or last week's cancellation (against KCS Old Boys).
This decision could yet be subject to change if the cancelled games subsequently have a bearing on promotion or relegation issues come the end of the season.
Either way, relegation to Hampshire One is still on the cards, with Alton currently lying 13 points adrift of safety.
Alton have a week off before their game with Old Freemen's at Anstey Park on 28 January. Freemen's too are in relegation trouble but could receive a lifeline if Alton's forward woes continue.
