Mission Statement: "Our mission is to give children the opportunity of being introduced to rugby in a safe and friendly environment; to encourage them to progress from mini and midi rugby to play the full, 15-a-side game respecting the traditions of the game of rugby football". Bruce Ray, Chairman of Alton Junior Rugby.

The Junior section of Alton RFC was formed in the early 1970's and has produced many excellent results and a number of outstanding players. The benefits of this steady but continuous success can now be seen in the Senior squad where many 1st XV, 2nd XV and Masters players started their rugby with Alton Mini-Midi and Junior squads.

During the 30 year history of the Junior section, Alton has produced seven England Schools Internationals and countless Hampshire and London Division players. In fact, one of our previous under 7's, Johnny Wilkinson, was a member of the victorious World Cup winning squad in 2003. Most recently Joe Gwyther played for Alton U16, Hampshire, the London & SE Division and England North U16 in season 2011-12.

In recognition of the excellent standards that have become the norm at the club we were the first club to be awarded the Hampshire RFU Seal of Approval on 3rd October 1993 and have since continued to develop our coaching and club management expertise. In season 2011-12 we were amongst the first clubs in the country to receive the RFU Acceditation which now adorns the clubhouse bar and website header. Alton Junior Rugby also assists local Primary and Secondary Schools in developing rugby within their school system.

With over 300 boys (and girls up to the age of 11) registered at Under 6 through to the Colts, the Junior club is growing and moving from success to success. All our lead coaches and squad managers have completed an RFU DBS Disclosure and are guided and developed by our excellent, high standard coaching committee led by our Coaching Co-ordinator Steve Jenkins.

We have excellent links with London Irish and regularly host their Rugby Camps at Anstey Park as well as attending their home fixtures in Reading. The ethos of the Junior section is to provide rugby for all in a fun and equitable way, our aim is to see many smiling faces every Sunday on the players, coaches and parents. This fun element prevails although we coach with the objective of doing our very best competitively.

Junior training

Mini-Midis (up to U12) and Juniors (U13-U16) train on a Sunday morning at Anstey Park, 10:00am until 12:00 noon. Matches are also played on Sundays so please check the fixtures and results section in case the squad has an away match. Additional midweek training takes place at Anstey Park under our floodlights.
